Unnamed Islay 1992 28YO Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml (SV)(ABV52%)

This single malt whisky was distilled in 1992 at an undisclosed distillery on Islay before being placed in bourbon barrels to age for no less than 28 years. It was vatted in cask #6774 and in 2021 it was bottled at 52.8% ABV as part of the Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection.

Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found.

Signatory currently bottle at three strengths: 43%, 46% Unchillfiltered (UCF) and Cask Strength. To add proof of authenticity to their cask strength bottlings, Signatory always include the cask numbers, date of distillation, date of bottling and number of bottles produced.

Nose - Fresh peat smoke, sweet malted barley, lemon citrus notes and some salty notes. Lagavulin anyone?

Palate - Tropical fruits are subtle and integrate very well with slightly floral notes, camp fire smoke creates a wonderful mouthfeel and flavour. Iodine and menthol lead us to believe it's a Laphroaig?

Finish - A long and very enjoyable finish of ashy smoke, citrus and hints of liquorice.
